Episode 1 – The Netherlands 2024

Welcome to THE WORLD, THROUGH MY EYES.  In this, my very first episode, I take you to The Netherlands.

You may or may not know this about me, but I LOVE the Netherlands. When I was in high school, I did a foreign exchange with YFU (Youth for Understanding) the summer before my Junior year. That was the first time I had ever been on an airplane and the first time I had ever been out of the United States. I was overwhelmed, but I loved every minute of it. My parents spent a lot of money to give me that experience and that, in my opinion, is what began my love of traveling. I have been very fortunate to have been able to go the the Netherlands many times since that very first trip and I think it’s only appropriate that it is the subject of this, my very first blog post.

These pictures are from a trip we took earlier this year. We were only in Amsterdam for a couple of days this time, but we took a train out to Zaanse Schans. Zaanse Schans is a neighborhood in the Dutch town of Zaandam, near Amsterdam. Historic windmills and distinctive green wooden houses were relocated here to recreate the look of an 18th/19th-century village. The Zaans Museum has regional costumes, model windmills and interactive exhibits on chocolate making. Artisan workshops demonstrate rare handicrafts such as wooden clog carving, barrel making and pewter casting. It was really fun to take pictures and see such an interesting place. I hope you enjoy my photos and, thank you, for taking time to SEE THE WORLD, THROUGH MY EYES.

I have many photos to share from past trips and trips that I take in the future. I hope to regularly update this blog, but please bear with me if I don’t. If you have any questions or comments drop me a line. I would love to hear from you.
